Molasses Ice Box Cookies

This recipe was my great grandmothers.

Molasses Ice Box Cookies 

½ c molasses
½ c shortening
½ c sugar
1 egg
1 t vanilla
2-½ c flour
½ t salt
¼ t soda
½ t cloves
1 t ginger
1 t cinnamon

Put molasses and shortening in a large saucepan. Stir over low heat until shortening has melted. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Cool. Add unbeaten egg and vanilla; stir. Sift remaining dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Form dough into rolls about 2-in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill 3 – 4 hours. Slice thin and bake on a well-greased baking sheet at 375 for 10 to 15 minutes.
